Bright Lights, Big Fussy Baby

We know that loud noises can startle your baby and send her on a crying frenzy. But did you know that bright lights can be equally distracting and cause a kind of sensory overload for your baby?

Keeping in mind that your baby was used to being in your womb where there were no bright lights, it makes sense that they wouldn't want be blasted with light as a newborn.

So, to help calm and soothe a fussy baby, take some steps to "set the mood" for peace and quiet.

  • Make sure you dim the lights. Pull down shades to reduce natural lighting.
  • Turn off TV's, radios.
  • Turn off loud ringers on phones
  • Utilize a white noise cd to mask any other loud noises that might interrupt your baby's serenity
