Baby Teething Troubles Produces Big-time Fussy Baby

Baby teething troubles usually starts around the sixth month, but can occur earlier of later. And as you know, this is an uncomfortable time for both you and your baby.

First, let's talk about baby teething symptoms.

  1. Drooling: This actually starts before the tooth starts to cut through. Right around month three or four. Stock up on your baby bibs!
  2. Diarrhea: The drooling seems to cause more saliva to be swallowed which leads to a looser stool for baby.
  3. Low fever: Commonly reported as one of the first teething symptoms. If the fever lasts more than two days, however, notify your doctor. Something else could be wrong.
  4. Irritability: Cutting a tooth hurts! As the gums become sore, your baby will probably become quite crabby.
  5. Chin Rash: Again, because of drooling, baby's chin may become chapped and irritated.
  6. Gnawing or biting: Chomping down on just about anything relieves the pressure from the sore gums. So, put up anything that might be dangerous for baby to put in her mouth. Stock up the baby teething biscuits.
  7. Coughing: Extra saliva may cause your baby to sputter and cough. It's nothing to worry about unless the cough is the result of a cold or is accompanied by a fever.
  8. Pulling ear or rubbing cheeks: If you have ever had a toothache, you probably know the pain radiates up to your ears. This can also be a sign of an ear infection.
  9. Not sleeping: Baby can't get comfortable which leads to waking often.
  10. Runny nose: Sometimes. Could also be from a cold.

You can try to relieve the pain by teething rings which are cooled in the fridge. Or baby teething biscuits are also helpful (but messy).

One other option for baby teething relief is Colic Calm gripe water. Colic Calm is a homeopathic medicine that soothes stomach upset from the increased saliva production while teething.

Hair Dryer White Noise for Fussy Baby

It sounds pretty ludicrous...we know. But, don't knock it 'til you try it.

Research has shown that fussy babies respond well to white noise created from a hair dryer or a vacuum cleaner.

Why?

It seems the sound emulates the womb sound baby heard for so many months in mom's tummy. More info on baby white noise.
